It’s been an action packed week for the ‘instant’ market. If you don’t know what I mean, I’m talking about the amount of web applications now set-up by developers since the inception of Google Instant. From YouTube instant to the most recent, iTunes Instant, set-up by 15-year-old Stephen Ou who we recently wrote up a story on regarding his recent start-up OneExtraLap, though it appear’s he’s let it be and moved to yet another start-up, Pitch.Ly. I’m sure we’ll see more from that later on.
The first thing is I did when hitting iTunes Instant, after testing out the feature was reading up on the about page. I wanted to know how he was making his money, no one does anything for free, we all know that.
Monetization? I use Apple’s Affiliate links. If you click on a link and buy an item in iTunes, I will earn 5% commission. I won’t make loads of money, but it does always help.
Genius.
So, iTunes Instant, I must admit – is brilliant. I hate iTunes for search, it’s so slow and horrible to use, Stephen has made an ingenious job of doing something about that, especially since the ‘instant’ market boom. It appears Jason Calacanis wants Stephen Out to drop out of school and to go work for him, copying Chad Hurley?
Going through the most recent set-ups, you’ve got YouTube Instant, by Feross, who had it up in 3 hours, and within 24 hours was front page news on virtually every tech related site on the globe – talk about press coverage. Oh, failed to mention – Chad Hurley, Co-Founder/CEO of YouTube offered him a job. Yes, at YouTube, another thing, he’s currently an intern at Facebook, talk about attention.
We wish both, the best of luck.
