The well known online dating website Plentyoffish has been hacked, resulting in e-mails, usernames and passwords of users being stolen, Plentyoffish CEO Markus Frind reveals all in a blog post.
The security breech that allowed the hackers to access this private information has been fixed, as well as all the passwords being reset. Plentyoffish still hasn’t made an official statement about the incident.
The hacker has been identified as Argentinian hacker Chris Russo, who did so using his own name, without taking precaution to hide his identity. Chris responded to this explaining his side of the story in a blog post on Grumo Media. Russo claims he’s merely a security researcher, who had discovered a security hole on Plentyoffish, which was already “under active explotation by hackers.”
The story is still rather vague and it is hard to find out exactly what happened. The main explanation to this is that Plentyoffish was hacked and emails, usernames and passwords have been stolen, maybe even paypal accounts. We can’t express how wary you should be visiting this site until an official announcement has been posted on what exactly happened along with the fixes that have been put in place.
