Nvidia is reconsidering its strategy and is now turning to the cheaper dual-core smartphones that will hopefully account for most of Apple’s competition. Basically, what Nvidia is trying to say, is that it is ready to take on the iPhone 4S. The phones that will result in the collaboration will be increasingly cheaper than any Apple smartphone on the market.
The prototype of this inexpensive smartphone has been pegged at around RMB1, 000 and it has been found that the device is almost 75% less expensive when compared with the price of Apple’s wonder child the iPhone 4S, who has pegged at RMB 4,988 in China. For the Q4 Nvidia has reported earnings of $116 million. But, compared to the $172 million for the whole year, this is actually good. This significant gain has beaten the estimates of analyst who have placed growth around 19%.
Nvidia also released a press release stating that the 1,000 RMB phone will be powered by a dual-core Tegra 2 processor (who’s provided by Nvidia of course). Chief Executive Office of Nvidia, Jen-Hsun Huang, stated that the device will probably held a 3G modem. Nothing from stopping you to get such a device is you’re not feeling squeamish at the thought of renouncing your Apple goods.
The CEO slipped a couple of other extra tips. He mentioned the fact that the company intends to roll out an integrated chip this very year. The technology will be a mix between a Nvidia Tegra and a LTE modem.
