How much of the day do you spend texting? You probably devote a lot of time to that activity, trying to keep up with everybody in your life. And we’re not even mentioning the time you spend writing emails and such. Well good news for you, mobile novel writers. The lovely third-party software keyboard Swype has been updated in such away, that it is not compatible with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
Swype is the app that allows users to type emails or text in a fast and in a fun way, relying on word prediction and the usual swiping motions to do so. Oddly enough, the app is not yet present in the Android Market, but it can be downloaded from the official developer’s site. Be advised that the app is still in beta version, but users who have already tested it out have not given any negative feedback yet.
This is a new version so it comes with a few bug fixes, compared to earilier releases and an improved interface. But be careful, you should turn off the default Ice Cream Sandwich spell checker in order for everything to work well. Here’s a few words of advice from the official blog:
“Finally, a few words of warning: First, Ice Cream Sandwich users are strongly encouraged to DISABLE ICS’S BUILT-IN SPELL-CHECKER. Swype’s dictionary is stored separately from the dictionary that ICS uses for spell-checking. Therefore words you add to the Swype dictionary will still show up as “misspellings” according to the spell-checker. This produces a poor user experience.”
The install works very well and is very straightforward. If you are already a Swype user just head on to the company’s website and get the latest version right now. If you are not a member will you have to sign in.
