Apple Launching New MacBook Airs In June/July

A new report from Digitimes seems to corroborate rumours we’ve heard in the past weeks about a MacBook Air refresh this summer, featuring Intel’s Sandy Bridge processors and Thunderbolt technology.

In the report, it says Apple’s 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch models will feature Intel’s Sandy Bridge processor as well as Thunderbolt ports.

“Main supply chain makers for the new models remain about the same as for the existing MacBook Air [although] none of the makers have confirmed their participation in making new MacBook Airs”, says DigiTimes.

The MacBook Air line was last updated in October at the Back to the Mac event, but recent reports suggest production would start later this month for a June release. Cnet was first to report in February the MacBook Airs would receive an upgrade.

There’s a lot of anticipation when it comes to the MacBook Air line, because of to their super-thin design, native SSD and screen resolution. Analysts are claiming the line could become a $2.2 billion annual business for Apple.
