It’s All About SnogMarryAvoid.me [INTERVIEW]

It’s been three days since the inception of SnogMarryAvoid.me – it’s a simple, yet very effective idea. Simply put unlike ThreeWords.me where you choose three words to describe someone, you choose whether or not you’d snog, marry or avoid a user. Each registered user uploads one square, avatar like image and away you go with your own URL.

As soon as I saw this on Twitter – yes it went viral, I had to speak to founders Jonathan Teeling and Will Peirce. This is what they had to say:

How did you get the idea of launching http://www.snogmarryavoid.me/?

Jonathan: We wanted to build a concept that made people think ‘I want to know that’. We explored a few different concepts, but snogmarryavoid came out top.

Will: The phrase is popular within the UK, so rather than trying to make a new concept popular online, we chose to bring something already popular to an online audience.

How long did it take you to launch the site?

Will: The site was designed and built within 2 days, it then took another day to test and amend but it was a fast turnaround from idea to reality.

Assuming you launched 24 hours ago, have you been able to manage the traffic or has it been on overload?

Jonathan: The site officially went live late night on the 15th, though we were just using it for testing visitor responses. Traffic gradually picked up on Sunday and at 6pm it really took off.

Will: By midnight we had received 30,000 visitors, we had a good server backing us so keeping the site running well hasn’t been an issue, yet.

Some people are thinking snogmarryavoid.me is too much like threewords.me, what would you say to them?

Jonathan: Both sites are simple apps which create huge interest for users. Although we see ourselves establishing away from threewords, we welcome comparisons, it’s a great site!

Will: We’ll be adding new features to the site within the next few days too.
