Lenovo to Launch an Ice Cream Sandwich Tablet

ASUS barely announced its brand new Transformer Prime and the competition has already spurted out a possible enemy: the Lenovo company just divulged the fact that it’s going to launch in time for the holiday season its own Android Tablet rumored to run on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

This 10.1-inch Lenovo tablet is supposed to sport an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and a quad-core Tegra 3 system-on-chip. It also features a pretty impressive 2GB of 1.6GHz DDR3 RAM, a USB socket for hosting peripherals and a camera with LCD flash. Engadget posted some pictures online of the device showing its back that highlighted a fingertip scanner that doubles as an optical trackpad.

There have been more interesting rumors coming from Lenovo regarding the ThinkPad X1 Hybrid – an “iPad” that should combine the X1 ultraportable line of Lenovo devices with Android and “Instant Media Mode” doubling battery life. Are the two connected somehow?

Apart from that, nothing else is currently known about this Lenovo wonder tablet, there has been no extra information going around about weight, thinness or dimensions. There hasn’t been a schedule release date for the Android tablet either, what’s known is that it will launch just in time to hit Santa Claus’s goodie bag. The price tag remains also a mystery so far.

Nevertheless, it seems like competition in the tablet market is going to be fierce since sources report Apple may also introduce its latest generation of iPads during the first quarter of 2012. Costumers better watch out as well, cherry picking is on!
