There are many programs and applications that attempt to turn your 2D desktop into a desktop that appears to be 3D. Not only that, but other companies have tried to implement 3 dimensions into their latest gadgets. Microsoft is to be the latest company to have a go at making their product(s) 3D, which recently came about in the form of a patent for what it describes as a “method and apparatus for providing a three-dimensional task gallery computer interface.” What they’re trying to say is that their new operating system plan involves a 3D desktop with places to put your folders and programs, such as walls, ceiling, floor and what looks like some kind of presentation screen. Grouping multiple windows and dumping them in certain spots of the “room” is what this patent entails, which means you will have to rely on your own memory to find exactly where you last put what you’re looking for, sound familiar? — Windows may become much like your own room, organised or not.
